Summer science camps offered for kids

The community services education program at Glendale Community College has partnered with Destination Science to offer summer camps for kids who are 5 to 11 years old.

The “Crazy Contraption and Demolition Lab” will be held June 26 through 30. Campers will design forts and pods to withstand wind, resist impact and sustain life in space as well as create and build electronic contraptions that spin and race.

Campers will also learn the science behind Newton’s laws, inventing games, forces of flight, bubble science and botany. The cost is $315.

From July 3 through 7, “Robotic Mystery Camp” will be held. Campers will build their own “Rescue Bot” and will race, battle and challenge their robot creations.

Then, campers will become forensic detectives and solve a microbot mystery.

The high-tech camp will include a super sound amplifier, electronic catapult game and magnetic benders. Kids will also design and keep their own goggles.

The fee for this program is discounted to $260 because no camp will be held on July 4.

The “Coaster Science and Mad Chemistry Lab” will be offered July 10 through 14. Activities will include constructing rides and mixing molecules.

Campers will create a wall coaster and three mini-electronic rides to take home. The camp’s cost is $315.

The programs will be held on the Glendale Community College campus at 1500 N. Verdugo Road and will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To register for Destination Science camps, visit glendale.edu/cse or call (818) 240-1000, Ext. 5015.
