Glendale PTA: A free program for college-bound students at GHS

Share

Trying to figure out the ins and outs of attending college can seem daunting. And, for those who may be a first-time college student in their family, the maze can seem even more confusing.

Because of this, the Glendale High School PTSA will host a free program called “Helping Your Child Navigate the Path to College” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Glendale High School, 1440 E. Broadway.

The meeting will be presented by College Fit 360, an educational consulting firm specializing in guiding students and families through the college-application process.

Information presented will be particularly important for 11th-grade students; however, there will be essential information for ninth- and 10th-graders, too.

Topics will include how parents can help their child prepare for college during each year of high school, what today’s college application process looks like and why it’s important to find the right college for a student.

Another free parent workshop, hosted by Glendale Unified School District’s Student Support Services Department in its ongoing series, will be presented at 6 p.m. on April 13 in the Library Connection at Adams Square, 1100 E. Chevy Chase Drive.

The topic will be suicide prevention, and it will be led by Ilin Magran, a psychologist for Glendale Unified. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for 15- through 24 year-olds, according to statistics. Issues such as risk factors, warnings signs and tools to help students will be discussed.

Seating is limited. Call (818) 548-3833 to pre-register.
