Alfred Khashakyan’s mixed martial arts’ rise took a detour Friday night.

In the co-main event of Fight Night at Sportsmen’s Lodge 4 at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City, Khashakyan had his five-fight winning streak stopped by way of a unanimous decision defeat to Juan Archuleta.

In a classic grappler versus striker matchup, the muay Thai practioner couldn’t fend off the wrestler, as Khashakyan, who trains at the Glendale Fighting Club, fell to 5-2 with the bantamweight (135 pounds) loss, while Archuleta improved to 7-1.

Glendale Fighting Club’s Levon Sargsyan was also set to fight on the card, but his late-notice opponent did not show up for weigh-ins.

The other local action came in amateur MMA bouts.

GFC’s Leon Shahbazian knocked out Kevin Widdoes in the second round to improve to 4-1, while Main Event Gym’s Davit Yegiazaryan took a decision over Sonny Gharu to improve to 4-0 and stablemate Tigran Grigoryan earned a decision nod over Tom Regal to improve to 4-1.

In other bouts, Lights Out Promotions favorite Thor Skancke defeated Nick Vanderpool via knockout in just 18 seconds. Skancke improved to 8-6, while Vanderpool fell to 4-2.

In the main event, Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Eddie Mendez improved to 8-3-1 with a unanimous decision over Bellator veteran Curtis Milleder, who fell to 8-3.
