All-Area Baseball First Team

Trevor Beer, Sophomore, Pitcher, Crescenta Valley

Made an instant impact for the Falcons and on the Pacific League, turning in some of, if not, the most impressive pitching numbers in the area. A Pacific League first-team selection, he posted a 6-2 record with a 1.07 earned-run average that saw him strikeout 78 batters and walk just 10 in 65 1/3 innings.

Christian Falcon, Senior, Infielder, St. Francis

Highlights were sometimes hard to come by for the Golden Knights, but Falcon provided plenty as he was an All-Mission League first-team selection who batted .378 with a team-leading 31 hits, 11 RBI and seven runs.

Sean Holt, Senior, Utility, Providence

A four-year standout who did it all each and every season for the Pioneers, First-team All-Liberty League pick finished with a .373 average, 30 RBI, 28 hits and 22 runs. On the mound, he was 5-4 with a 1.21 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 53 innings.

Thomas Keller, Senior, Infielder, Providence

Fleet-footed first-team All-Liberty League honoree paced the Pioneers with a .410 average and had 34 hits, 31 runs and a .480 on-base percentage. On the mound, he produced to the tune of a 4-1 record with a 2.33 earned-run average and 39 strikeouts in 36 innings.

Robbie Leslie, Senior, Utility, Flintridge Prep

Despite injuries, the All-CIF and All-Prep League first-teamer was stellar on the mound, great at the plate and showcased a terrific arm in the infield. On the bump, he had a 3-3 record, a 2.03 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 38 innings. At the plate, he hit .360 with 27 hits, 24 RBI, 21 runs and nine doubles.

Brandon Lewis, Junior, Outfielder, St. Francis

An All-Mission League second-team pick who batted .341 with a team-high 16 RBI, 13 runs, seven doubles, four stolen bases and two home runs.

Ryan Lynch, Senior, Infielder, Crescenta Valley

Slick-fielding shortstop was clutch as a junior and stepped to the forefront as a senior, earning Pacific League co-Player of the Year and All-CIF Southern Section Division II first-team honors after leading Falcons’ charge to share of league crown. Drove in the winning run on the final day of league play against archrival Arcadia as part of a season in which he hit .398 with 35 hits, 22 runs scored, 11 walks and a .486 on-base percentage.

Justin Palafox, Junior, Infielder, Burroughs

Very much the offensive catalyst for the Pacific League co-champions, the Indians shorstop was a first-team all-leaguer with a .432 batting average. He added 35 hits, 22 runs batted in, 24 runs scored and a .516 on-base percentage.

Cole Pilar, Senior, Catcher, Flintridge Prep

A focal point during the Rebels’ run of success, Pilar turned in arguably his best season as a senior, earning the Prep League Most Valuable Player honor along with a first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division VI nod. Batted a robust .457 with a team-leading 43 runs batted in, 37 hits, 25 runs, 12 walks, 10 doubles, five triples and four home runs.

Andy Reyes, Junior, Outfielder, Burbank

Phenomenal all-around athlete, the first-team All-Pacific League selection put up big numbers. Leading the Bulldogs at the plate, he tallied a .429 average with 35 hits, including nine doubles and four triples, 14 RBI and 15 runs scored.

Will Smiley, Sophomore, Utility, Crescenta Valley

An All-Pacific League second-team pick who put up first-team numbers, Smiley turned in a 6-3 record with a 1.45 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 53 innings. At the plate, he added 22 hits, 10 runs batted in and 14 runs.

Mathew Sox, Junior, Pitcher, La Cañada

Despite a season of struggles for the Spartans, the Rio Hondo League first-team pick shined. He put together a 3-3 record with a 2.41 ERA over 52 1/3 innings with 30 strikeouts and 18 walks.

Jason Whaley, Senior, Outfielder, Burroughs

Another second-team All-Pacific League honoree who had a first-team campaign, he hit .384 with 28 hits, 21 RBI and 22 runs to help the Indians win a share of their second straight league title. .

Coach of the Year

Guillermo Gonzalez, Flintridge Prep

Success has come instantly under Gonzalez, but an outright Prep League title had to wait until this season, when the Rebels went undefeated in league play and snapped archrival Pasadena Poly’s two-decade long run of titles. In addition, Gonzalez guided Flintridge Prep to the CIF Southern Section Divison VI semifinals for the third time in four seasons to go with a 19-6 record.
