All-Area Boys’ Tennis Team
SINGLES
Lucas Chmielewski, Junior, La Cañada
Makes a return trip to the All-Area team after another semifinal run in the Rio Hondo League, coming up short against the San Marino dynasty. Finished 18-10 overall.
Jonathan Frink, Senior, Crescenta Valley
Pacific League semifinalist often led the Crescenta Valley singles charge. At season’s end, owned an impressive 36-8 record with a 29-3 league mark, taking third in league.
Kevin Orellana, Burbank, Senior
Led the way as the Bulldogs returned to the postseason and collected his team’s only victory in a first-round loss to Pasadena Poly. Also advanced to the Pacific League semifinals.
DOUBLES
Charlie Kim, Junior/Kevin Rowe, Sophomore, Crescenta Valley
Kim was arguably the Falcons’ finest doubles player, while Rowe provided plenty of points in singles, but together they found success in the form of a Pacific League semifinals run. Overall, they went 11-2.
Gillis Linde, Freshman/Christian Yeghnazar, Junior, Flintridge Prep
Played a pivotal role in leading Flintridge Prep back into the postseason and was the only area doubles team to land a spot in the CIF Individual Tournament. Yeghnazar and Linde advanced to the second round and concluded their season with a 29-14 overall mark and a 12-3 showing in the Prep League.
Ian Freer, Freshman/Jack Freer, Junior, St. Francis
Two of the area’s best singles players were double tough as a tandem for the playoff-bound Golden Knights, advancing to the Mission League semifinals.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Sam Hyun, Crescenta Valley
Navigated the Falcons to another season in which they were arguably the area’s top team and the No. 1 contender against juggernaut Arcadia. Crescenta Valley posted an 11-5 record with a second-place league mark. Lost on the road in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division II tournament to the always tough Valencia Valencia on games.
