Following a 75-mile trip to the Antelope Valley on Wednesday, the Crescenta Valley 8-10 All-Star baseball team looked to begin the Section 2 Tournament on the right note.

However, a rough first inning put Crescenta Valley behind early and it couldn’t catch up.

Crescenta Valley surrendered four first-inning runs and suffered a 7-4 loss to District 51 champion Quartz Hill in the double-elimination tournament in Rosamond.

Crescenta Valley, which captured the District 16 championship, will meet District 40 Encino or District 17 Pasadena American in an elimination contest at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

“We had a tough opening inning and we tried to make a game of it,” Crescenta Valley manager Larry Terenzi said. “We made a couple of errors and it led to four unearned runs.

“I thought we settled down after the first inning and played much better. We had some good scoring chances later on, but we just couldn’t come through. We’ll look to bounce back Thursday and try to keep it going.”

Crescenta Valley received two hits and two runs batted in from Ryan French. Otto Cohen and Luca Terenzi also drove in one run apiece for Crescenta Valley.

Luca Terenzi pitched three innings, striking out four.

The tournament’s championship game will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday. A winner-take-all contest would start at 3 p.m. Sunday if needed.
