GLENDALE — Crescenta Valley High’s football team scored early and often to remain undefeated with a 54-23 victory over host Hoover in the Pacific League opener for both schools at Moyse Field.

Angel Ochoa got the festivities going as he returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown for the Falcons and would add another return for a score. Hoover responded as Andrew Rangel connected on a 69-yard touchdown pass to Guillermo Corrales less than two minutes into the game, but thereafter it was all Falcons.

Crescenta Valley (4-0, 1-0) extended its lead to 34-7 at halftime. The Falcons took advantage of consistently short fields to build their lead. Three first-half fumbles prevented Crescenta Valley from building an even bigger lead.

Hoover (1-3, 0-1) was led by the quarterback tandem of Quran Bouldin and Rangel. Bouldin completed six of 14 passes for 121 yards and added 119 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns. Rangel completed three of seven passes for 79 yards and one touchdown.

Crescenta Valley quarterback Cole Doyle completed nine of 14 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Doyle carried eight times for 46 yards and one touchdown, a 31-yard scoring run in the second quarter.

“I thought our offense was cooking. It was a clean, solid outing,” Cole Doyle said. “We have to cut down on our mental mistakes for the bigger games down the road.”

Ochoa returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter to extend the Falcons’ lead. Chase Center returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to lead the Falcons defense, which recorded eight tackles for losses.

“I’m only concerned with getting better so it turned out to be a good win despite the turnovers,” Paul Schilling Crescenta Valley Coach said. “We made some big plays so I like it. Hoover made it hard because they have some good players.”

Crescenta Valley, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division VI, extended its Pacific League winning streak to nine games.
