PASADENA — Muir High’s football team scored early and often to overwhelm visiting Glendale, 55-0, in a Pacific League contest on Friday night at Glendale High’s Moyse Field.

Muir sprinted out to a 42-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Mustangs employed a quick-strike offense as they recorded 14 plays of 10 yards or more.

Nitros quarterback Van Haslett was stopped at the one-yard line as the first half clock ran out. It was Glendale’s farthest penetration into Muir territory for the game.

Haslett completed two out of 18 passes for 14 yards.

The Glendale (2-5, 0-4 in league) drive was set up by a 25-yard end around pass from Ethan Osorno to Trent Lousararian.

“We’ve worked on the that play in practice,” Lousararian said. “We performed it perfectly. It’s cool.”

Aryonis Harrison returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter for Muir (4-3, 2-2).

Jalique Stephens returned the next Glendale punt 50 yards to set up a four-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Stephens.

Stephens carried two times for 42 yards, scoring on runs of 18 and 24 yards.

Muir gained 301 yards on 30 plays.

Glendale amassed only 86 yards in total offense. The Nitros could only muster four first downs in the game.

The game was played with a running clock after the first quarter.

“They had too much of everything. We got a chance to play football and now we’ll prepare for next week,” Glendale coach George Maiale said. “We are going to enjoy each day and each other. Keep trucking is all we can do.”

Glendale will look for its first league win when it hosts Arcadia next week.
