Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley girls’ tennis loses first-place tilt with Arcadia

Arcadia 12, Crescenta Valley 6: The Falcons, ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division III, dropped a Pacific League home match Tuesday for first place to reigning league champion Arcadia, the No. 8 team in Division I. Crescenta Valley dipped to 4-1, 3-1 in league.

Glendale 15, Mark Keppel 3: Host Glendale picked up a nonleague win Monday.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Glendale 18, Sierra Vista 7: Visiting Glendale (5-1) rolled to a nonleague win Tuesday. Glendale got 15 saves from goalkeeper Ronald George and eight goals from Gevork Karapetyan.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Marymount 3, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 0: The Tologs opened the Mission League season Tuesday evening with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-18 defeat.

Julia Powers led Flintridge Sacred Heart (5-7) with five kills, while Emily Smith and Megan Lund added four kills each. Maddie Pernecky tallied 12 digs and Cate Doud added 21 assists.

Glendale Adventist Academy 3, Milken Community 0: Glendale Adventist (8-0) began Liberty League action Tuesday with a 25-9, 25-21, 25-16 road win. Paige Singleton finished with 14 kills, nine digs and five aces for the Cougars, who got 16 kills, 11 digs and three aces from Elyse Knipschild and 21 digs and three aces from Camille Pizarro.

Glendale 3, Holy Family 2: Glendale picked up a 26-24, 16-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-7 nonleague home win Monday.

Meghann Velasquez finished with 13 kills and 38 digs for Holy Family, which received 18 assists from Michelle Barraza and 27 digs from Giselle Quintanilla.

St. Monica Academy 3, L.A. International 2: The Crusaders posted a 25-23, 18-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-10 International League victory Friday.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Glendale, Crescenta Valley in Pacific League match No. 3: Elis Alaan of Glendale carded a three-over-par 39 on Tuesday at De Bell Golf Club in Burbank.

Crescenta Valley took fifth, finishing with a 268. Cathlyn Junio fired a 48 for the Falcons.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Flintridge Prep at Woodbridge Invitational: It was a strong outing for the Rebels’ top runner Evan Pattinelli, who placed 28th in the boys’ sweepstakes race at Norco Silver Lakes’ Course Saturday evening in a mark of 14 minutes, 42.3 seconds.

The rest of Pattinelli’s teammates ran in the rated race and took 26th with 623 points. Rebels junior Carson Hasrouck led the charge in taking 69th in 15:35.6.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Flintridge Prep, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, Glendale at Woodbridge Invitational: In a race between local squads, Flintridge Prep captured the Division IV-A varsity event with 67 points, ahead of fourth-place Flintridge Sacred Heart (205) on Saturday.

Rebels senior Sophie Gitlin led her team to victory in 17:31.3, while Sasha Codiga took fourth in 17:59.8 and Haley Allen earned 14th (18:31.3), Jenna Mijares was 27th (19:04.3) and Gabi Bennet was 28th (19:06.2).

Lauren Nettles was the Tologs’ top runner, taking 11th in 18:06.5, while Jocelyn Aguirre was 40th (19:28.4).

Glendale Junior Vanneza Venzor placed 34th in the Division III-B varsity race in a time of 19:02.8 on Saturday in Norco.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Glendale Community College 3, Compton College 0: Ana Hernandez, Melanie Ascencio and Savannah Castaneda scored goals Tuesday to lift visiting Glendale (1-5) to its first victory of the season.

The triumph snapped a 10-match losing streak and overall 14-game winless streak for the Vaqueros, who were last victorious at Cerro Coso, 3-0, on Oct. 4, 2016.
