Sports Roundup: Flintridge Sacred Heart volleyball wins Crescenta Valley Tournament

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Crescenta Valley, Flintridge Sacred Heart, Hoover at Crescenta Valley Tournament: The two-day Crescenta Valley Tournament featured three local squads and finished with a city rivalry championship match.

Flintridge Sacred Heart won its second tournament in as many weekends and exacted some revenge in defeating La Cañada, 25-22, 25-21, in the title match.

The Tologs improved to 19-13 while junior opposite Megan Lund was named tournament most valuable player after finishing with 38 kills and 26 digs combined in victories over Alta Loma (2-1), Eagle Rock (2-0), Hoover (2-0) and La Cañada.

Cate Doug, Maddie Pernecky (30 digs) and Skylar Bowyer (19 kills) were named to the all-tournament team. Emily Smith added 31 kills for the Tologs, who avenged a 3-2 loss to La Cañada on Oct. 7.

Crescenta Valley (10-13) finished 2-2 in the tournament, while Hoover (1-15-1) finished 0-4.

MEN’S SOCCER

Glendale Community College 4, Bakersfield College 1: Christopher Mazzi had a pair of assists and Glendale had three second-half goals to garner a Western State Conference South win at home Friday.

Yassine Laraichi, Fabricio Bonilla, Luis Cervantes and Ahmed Alquatan had goals for Glendale (4-8-3, 3-1 in conference). Bonilla has eight goals on the season and has scored in four consecutive games.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Glendale Community College 3, L.A. Pierce College 0: The Vaqueros (3-15, 0-3 in Western State Conference East) lost at home on Friday afternoon, 25-19, 25-16, 25-13.
