Sports Roundup: St. Francis basketball falls in tourney final

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Lakewood 66, St. Francis 62: Javon Jones registered 24 points for St. Francis, which fell Saturday in the championship contest of the San Gabriel Valley Tournament.

St. Francis’ Matt Molina was bestowed with all-tournament accolades. The Golden Knights are 9-4.

Salesian 54, Crescenta Valley 41: The Falcons (7-6) lost in the Palm Springs Tournament’s Best Buy Division championship contest.

Arman Pezeskian and Austin Novak of Crescenta Valley picked up all-tournament recognition.

Temple City 62, Hoover 45: Hoover lost a consolation game in the Monrovia Tournament on Saturday.

The Tornadoes (4-9) got 25 points from Caleb Davis and 20 from Karo Darmandzhyan. Davis received all-tournament honors.

Westlake 49, Flintridge Prep 41: Flintridge Prep (3-9) fell in a consolation contest of the Santa Barbara Tournament on Saturday.

Glendale 86, San Gabriel 46: Glendale (12-1) captured the San Gabriel Valley Clasic on Friday.

Eli Degrate of Glendale was named the tournament’s most valuable player and teammate David Shamiryan eaned all-rournament recognition.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 63, South Hills 58: On the strength of 23 points from Kaitlyn Chen, the Rebels (9-5) won Saturday to take third place in the La Cañada Tournament.

Sophia Gonzalez and Madison Manning added 11 points apiece.

Crescenta Valley 56, St. Bonaventure 52: Georgina Kregorian finished with 14 points Saturday to spark the Falcons in a consolation game of the West Coast Classic at Burroughs High.

Crescenta Valley (9-4) got 10 points from Caity Bouchard and nine from Michelle Boghossian.

Rio Mesa 46, Hoover 11: Hoover (1-9) dropped a West Coast Classic contest Saturday at Burroughs High.

BOYS’ SOCCER

San Marcos 3, St. Francis 0: The Golden Knights (6-4-1) suffered a defeat Saturday in the championship match of the Oceanside Tournament.

Crescenta Valley 3, San Fernando 0: Talon Carvalho had one goal and one assist Saturday to lift the Falcons in the seventh-place match of the Crescenta Valley Tournament.

Crescenta Valley (6-4-2) also had goals from Eric Cho and Woo Jin Kim. Falcons goalie Sipan Arakelian made two saves for the shutout.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

El Camino College 78, Glendale Community College 49: Glendale (8-4) fell Saturday in a nonconference road contest.

Glendale scored just three fourth-quarter points and yielded 21. The Vaqueros got 11 points and seven rebounds from Sylvia Vartazarian and 10 points from Cheyenne Jankulovski.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Saddleback Community College 71, Glendale Community College 38: The Vaqueros (5-9) suffered a nonconference road defeat Saturday.

Glendale received a team-high 11 points from Chris Daniels and eight from Dominic Gully.
