Sports Roundup: Glendale Community College softball sweeps doubleheader

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Glendale Community College 5/16, Oxnard College 0/7: The Vaqueros (3-5-1) rolled to a pair of nonconference wins on the road Saturday.

In the 5-0 victory, Stephanie Garner spun a shutout with three strikeouts, four walks and six hits allowed. Garner also had two hits and an run batted in. Lila Montenegro had a pair of hits and two runs batted in, Jessica Warren added two hits, two runs and an RBI and Amber Hernandez also had two hits.

In the 16-7 win, Hernandez had a triple, double, two runs, two RBI, two walks and a stolen base. Montenegro added two hits, three runs, an RBI and two walks, Madison Stilwell had two hits, three runs and an RBI, Samantha Medrano posted two hits, three runs, an RBI and two walks, Garner had two hits and three RBI, Hannah Carmona had three hits, a run and an RBI, Eve Ramirez had two hits, three RBI and a run and Tatiana Schelley added a triple, three walks, two RBI and a run.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 71, Citrus College 60: Glendale won its third in a row on Saturday at home with Savannah Fauria and Cheyenne Jankulovski scoring 19 and 18 points, respectively.

Sylvia Vartazarian tallied 15 points for GCC (16-8, 6-2 in Western State Conference East).

GIRLS’ SOCCER

St. Monica Academy 11, Guidance Charter 0: The Crusaders won handily on Thursday to conclude the regular season.

Entering the playoffs, St. Monica is 9-6-1, 8-4 in the International League for third place.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Alemany 82, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 39: A tough season came to a close for the Tologs at home on Thursday night.

Flintridge Sacred Heart ended its campaign at 2-18, 0-8 in the Mission League.
