Sports Roundup: St. Monica Academy soccer stopped in 2nd round

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Wildwood 4, St. Monica Academy 1: The Crusaders saw their season wrap up late Tuesday night after falling to the second seed in a CIF Southern Section Division VII second-round match at the Glendale Sports Complex.

Clara Griffin scored for St. Monica.

St. Monica (11-7-1) posted a 3-1 first-round victory against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy for the first postseason win in team history.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Crescenta Valley 16, La Salle 2: The host Falcons began their season Tuesday with a nonleague victory.

Temple City 15, Flintridge Prep 3: Flintridge Prep began its season Tuesday with a nonleague loss on the road.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Cerritos College 6, Glendale Community College 5: Glendale came up short at Stengel Field on Wednesday evening.

Jerald Murray threw 4 1/3 innings with four hits allowed, three strikeouts and one unearned run in long relief. Tom Tabak had three stolen bases, two hits, two walks and a run scored. Tony LaPorte had a pair of hits, a run and a run batted in and Andrew Alvarez turned in a two-run, pinch-hit double for GCC (9-5).

Glendale posted a 5-1 nonconference home win against Pasadena City College on Tuesday. Starting pitcher Chris Davidson picked up the win, giving up one earned run and striking out nine in 7 1/3 innings. Troy Viola finished with two hits for Glendale.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 9, Santa Monica College 0: The host Vaqueros cruised to a Western State Conference win Tuesday.

Glendale (7-2, 4-0 in conference) got singles wins from Miah Webb (6-0, 6-1), Srna Lepchevska (6-0, 6-1), Hailey McNall (6-1, 6-0), Sabrina Subero (6-0, 6-0) and Felicia Moradian (6-0, 6-4) and got one victory via forfeit.

In doubles, the Vaqueros received wins from Lepchevksa and McNall (8-0) and Webb and Subero (8-0) and got one victory via forfeit.
