Sports Roundup: Beer is brilliant in Crescenta Valley baseball’s season-opening win

BASEBALL

Crescenta Valley 8, San Dimas 0: Trevor Beer threw six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and just one hit and one walk allowed for the victory in the Falcons’ season opener on Saturday night at Stengel Field.

Scott Vinceri closed the show with two strikeouts in one inning pitched. Vinceri added two singles, one walk and a run batted in. Nico Arredondo also had a pair of hits. Will Grimm drove in a pair of runs and Will Rees and Kewin Ledesma had an RBI each.

Rancho Cucamonga 4, St. Francis 3: Aaron Treloar’s bases-loaded double in the first inning scored Brandon Lewis, Christian Muro and Patrick Dionisio, but that was all the offense St. Francis could muster in Saturday’s defeat at Mount San Antonio College in the Frozen Ropes Classic.

Rancho Cucamonga took a 1-0 lead in the first and then rallied past a 3-1 deficit with three second-inning runs.

Evan Tontini pitched five innings, allowed five hits, struck out three and allowed four runs, though they were all unearned.

Golden Valley 15, Glendale 2: Armando Alavarez and Nolan Wong drove in runs with Nate Rangel and Andrew Tinoco scoring them in the top of the first inning, but Golden Valley responded with nine runs in the bottom of the inning to defeat Glendale in its nonleague season opener Saturday.

Tinoco finished with two hits.

SOFTBALL

Glendale 3, Venice 2: The Nitros won Saturday at home in a Lincoln Classic game.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

West Ranch 14, St. Francis 5: The Golden Knights lost their season opener on the road Saturday morning.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Golden West College 8, Glendale Community College 3: The Vaqueros’ five-game winning streak was snapped Saturday afternoon at Stengel Field with the nonconference defeat.

Angel Lerma had a six-inning start in which he allowed five hits, one unearned run and two walks and struck out four.

Jacob Gribbin had three hits, including a triple, with two runs, Troy Viola was two for two with a run and run batted in and Sergio Rey had a hit, walk and RBI.

WOMEN’S SOFTBALL

Cerritos College 9, Glendale Community College 0 (five innings): Madison Stilwell and Sydney Jones had the Vaqueros only hits in Saturday afternoon’s nonconference road loss.

GCC dropped to 1-4.
