Sports Roundup: Boys’ soccer matches moved to Monday due to weather

BOYS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Prep, Hoover, St. Francis postpone first-round playoff matches: As heavy rains and gusty winds hit the Southland in relentless fashion on Friday, they played havoc with the CIF Southern Section boys’ soccer playoffs.

In Division I action, St. Francis’ match at Paramount on Friday was called off and will be played at 3 p.m. Monday.

In Division IV, Hoover’s match at Glendora was postponed until Monday at 5 p.m.

Flintridge Prep, playing a home match scheduled for 7 p.m. at St. Francis against Azusa, will play on Monday, but a time and venue were unknown at the time of publication.

The second round is slated for Wednesday.

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 9, Santa Barbara City College 0: Glendale rolled to a Western State Conference home victory Thursday.

Glendale (5-0, 2-0 in conference) received singles wins from Christian Hess (6-0 6-3), Chris Pope (6-2, 6-0), Arin Meserkhani (6-1, 6-2), Kevin Orellana (6-0, 6-0), John Robertson (6-1, 6-0) and Stephen Sandoval (6-1, 6-3).

Glendale got doubles victories from Pope and Meserkhani (8-3), Hess and Orellana (8-1) and Andres Simental and David Preciado (8-6).

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 9, Antelope Valley College 0: Visiting Glendale registered a Western State Conference road win Thursday.

The Vaqueros picked up singles victories from Hailey McNall (6-4, 6-1), Tsukimi Ono (6-0, 6-0), Veronika Galstyan (6-2, 6-2) and Kanako Kihara (6-0, 6-0). They also got two wins via forfeit.

In doubles, Glendale got wins from Kanako Kihara and Melody Emmanouilidi (8-2) and Alexa Mendez and Gabrielle Bautista (8-0) and one win via forfeit.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

San Bernardino Valley College 4, Glendale Community College 1: Host Glendale (1-3) dropped a nonconference contest Thursday at the Glendale Sports Complex. Madison Stillwell had a run-scoring double in the first inning for the Vaqueros.
