Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley boys’ soccer officially back in playoff picture

BOYS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 3, Glendale 0: The visiting Falcons jumped into fourth place Friday after picking up a Pacific League win.

Crescenta Valley (8-8-6, 5-5-2 in league for 17 points) owns a one-point lead over Hoover and Burbank, who both lost Friday, for the fourth and final automatic playoff spot in league.

The Falcons, who are unbeaten in their last seven matches (5-0-2), received one goal apiece from Ayden Blackwood, Henry Barkhordarian and Jonny Han and two assists from Kyle Quesada.

Glendale dipped to 3-9-3, 2-7-3.

Pasadena, with 31 points, clinched a share of the league title with a 2-0 win against Burbank, while Burroughs sits in second with 25 points after downing Hoover, 2-1, and Muir (20 points) is in third after tying Arcadia, 3-3.

Harvard-Westlake 3, St. Francis 1: St. Francis suffered a Mission League road defeat Friday.

The Golden Knights (4-9-5, 2-4-4 in league) got a goal from Liam Snashall and eight saves from goalkeeper Mark Garcia.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 5, Glendale 3: Brianna McReynolds and Rachel Bird had two goals apiece on Friday as the Falcons built a 3-0 lead and staved off Glendale in Pacific League action.

Crescenta Valley improved to 11-5, 11-1 in league for first place with the home win, while Glendale fell to 7-11-1, 5-7 in league and was eliminated from automatic playoff contention as it sits in fifth place with 15 points. Burroughs defeated Hoover to clinch fourth place with 24 points.

Emily Jabourian also scored for the Falcons.

Glendale got one goal apiece from Sophia Espinosa, Renee Paladini and Ashley Vela.

Flintridge Prep 9, Firebaugh 2: The Rebels cruised to a Prep League road win Friday at Lynwood High.

Flintridge Prep (13-2-5, 7-1 in league) got three goals and two assists from Helen Schaefer and two goals from Jillian Brady,

Chaminade 1, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 0: The Tologs lost Friday afternoon at Occidental College in Mission League action.

FSHA fell to 10-5-3, 2-4-1

Burroughs 5, Hoover 1: Remi Miller converted on a penalty kick for the Tornadoes’ goal on Friday in Pacific League action.

Hoover fell to 3-14-3, 2-10 in league.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 78, McAuliffe 71 (overtime): Andrew Tsangeos finished with 24 points Friday to ignite the host Rebels (16-4) in a nonleague contest.

Flintridge Prep received 18 points from Kendall Kikkawa and 15 from Dante Fregoso.

Burroughs 81, Hoover 60: Visiting Hoover fell in a Pacific League game Friday. The Tornadoes are 6-18, 3-9 in league.

Harvard-Westlake 84, St. Francis 53: St. Francis suffered a Mission League road defeat Friday. The Golden Knights are 6-18, 2-8 in league.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

St. Monica Academy 68, Calvary Baptist 8: The visiting Crusaders held Calvary Baptist scoreless in the second half and rolled to a lopsided International League win Friday.

St. Monica (12-4, 5-0 in league) got 17 points and eight steals from Molly Hagen, 10 points from Elena Ford and six points each from Kayla Grimm and Renata Zepeda.

Burroughs 66, Hoover 25: The Tornadoes dropped a Pacific League road game Friday.

Hoover (6-17, 3-10 in league) got 13 points from Nanor Sevajian.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 6, San Diego Mesa College 3: Visiting Glendale (2-3) earned a nonconference victory Friday.

The Vaqueros got singles wins from Tsukimi Ono (6-3, 6-2), Melody Emmanouilidi (6-1, 6-2), Alexa Mendez (4-6, 6-1, 6-0) and Melina Fone (7-6(8-6), 7-6(9-7).

Glendale received doubles victories from Veronika Galstyan and Emmanouilidi (8-3) and Mendez and Elen Chtchyan (8-1).
