Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley cross-country’s Fitzgerald wins second race in three days

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Crescenta Valley at Billy York Invitational: The Falcons ran to victory at Saturday morning’s Varsity A run at the Billy York Invitational at the Riverside City College Cross-Country Course.

Crescenta Valley finished with 35 points, well ahead of runner-up Apple Valley Granite Hills, which tallied 98 points.

It was another winning effort for junior Colin Fitzgerald, who, two days after winning the Pacific League’s first meet, won on the CIF Southern Section prelims and finals course in a time of 15 minutes, 59.7 seconds.

Falcons sophomore Manan Vats took second overall in 16:01.6, while junior Artin Allahverdian (seventh, 16:18.7), senior Matt Brunner (10th, 16:34.1) and Kevin Faeustle (15th, 16:38.6) finished up the scoring for the Falcons.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Crescenta Valley at Billy York Invitational: The Falcons took to action early Saturday morning at the Billy York Invitational at the Riverside City College Cross-Country Course.

The Falcons finished eighth with 171 points, one spot and one point behind Pacific League rival Burbank.

Falcons sophomore Melissa Owens led her squad by taking 21st in 20 minutes 47.3 seconds, while freshman Sophia Atin took 26th in 20:59.2.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy 3, Holy Family 0: Holy Family suffered a 26-24, 25-18, 25-16 nonleague road defeat Friday.

The Gaels (5-8) got 16 digs from Mikayla DePeralta, nine assists from Michelle Barrazaand and 16 digs and four aces from Meghann Velasquez.

Arcadia 3, Hoover 0: The Tornadoes lost to the first-place Apaches on the road Thursday, 25-8, 25-14, 25-13, in Pacific League action.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Glendale Community College 3, Cuyamaca College 0: The Vaqueros (3-7) posted a 25-16, 25-23, 25-10 win in the Glendale quad tournament on Friday.

Glendale also fell, 25-14, 25-10, 25-11, to California Lutheran University’s junior varsity squad.

MEN’S SOCCER

Pasadena City College 2, Glendale Community College 0: The Vaqueros (4-4) fell Friday in a nonconference match.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Bakersfield College 3, Glendale Community College 1: Host Glendale (0-4-2) dropped a nonconference match Friday.
