Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley girls’ volleyball takes second in host tourney

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Crescenta Valley, Glendale at Crescenta Valley Tournament: The Falcons advanced to the Gold Division championship match of their two-day tournament, but were defeated by Pacific League archrival Arcadia in the championship.

Arcadia defeated Crescenta Valley, 25-10, 25-22 to win the title as the Falcons finished second.

Prior to reaching the championship, Crescenta Valley (17-10) defeated Glendale and Chatsworth.

Crescenta Valley finished with an overall 4-1 tournament record after wins over Ridgecrest Burroughs (25-15, 23-25, 15-10) and Taft (25-21, 25-14) in Friday’s pool play action.

Crescenta Valley’s Elise Boyle, Patty Kerman and Noor Alanizi were all named to the all-tournament team.

The Nitros finished 1-4, with their lone win coming in Friday’s pool play action 25-20, 26-24 over St. Genevieve.

Glendale (6-18) had pool play losses versus Alta Loma (25-11, 25-18) and Chaminade (21-25, 25-12, 15-12) before falling to Crescenta Valley and Chatsworth on Saturday.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in Redondo Power Classic: The Tologs (22-8) took ninth in the two-day event, which concluded Saturday. On Saturday, Flintridge Sacred Heart suffered a 28-26, 27-25 defeat to Garces before beating Marlborough (25-14, 25-21) and Buena (25-9, 25-20).

On Friday, Flintridge Sacred Heart began with a win against Long Beach Millkian (25-14, 26-28, 25-23, 25-14) and then defeated Los Osos (25-12, 25-19, 25-16).

Kayla Lund finished the tournament with 69 kills, 40 digs and 17 aces for the Tologs, who received 69 kills, 26 digs and eight aces from Ellis DeJardin, 19 kills and 30 digs from Tori Conlon and 25 digs from Maddie Pernecky.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Flintridge Prep 23, La Salle 5: Host Flintridge Prep got six goals and five steals from Ian Tien and five goals and four assists from Kasen Barraclough to earn a Prep League win Saturday. Goalkeeper Conrad Oakes had 16 saves for the Rebels (9-7-1, 5-2 in league).

MEN’S SOCCER

Glendale Community College 2, Bakersfield College 1: Glendale registered a Western State Conference South Division win Friday. The Vaqueros improved to 8-5-2, 3-0-1 in the division and are tied for first with Victor Valley, which travels to Glendale on Tuesday night at 7.

Glendale has won two matches in a row and is riding a five-match unbeaten streak.
