Sports Roundup: FitzGerald takes 12th at Foot Locker regional

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Colin FitzGerald, Evan Pattinelli at Foot Locker West Regional: A week removed from a disappointing 45th-place showing at the CIF State Division I final, FitzGerald turned in a stellar showing at Saturday’s Foot Locker Cross Country Championships West Regional at Mount San Antonio College.

The Crescenta Valley High junior finished 12th in 15 minutes 55.1 seconds.

The race was won by Utah senior Talon Hull in 15:28.3. FitzGerald was the third-highest junior finisher and the fourth-highest non-senior. He was the fourth Californian across the finish line.

As for Pattinelli, the Flintridge Prep junior and reigning CIF Southern Section Division V champion, took 39th in 16:23.3.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Hoover 38, Baldwin Park 23: Mary Cantos collected a team-high 16 points and Khiara Almendras added eight on Saturday to lead the Tornadoes (1-3) in the seventh-place game of the Rosemead Tournament.

Cantos earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Marshall Fundamental 35, St. Monica Academy 14: If there’s good news for the Crusaders, it’s that the San Marino Tournament is over.

St. Monica Academy closed out an 0-5 run through the tournament Saturday morning with the defeat.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

South Pasadena 61, Flintridge Prep 50: Flintridge Prep closed out its first week of action at the Providence Tournament at 2-2 with a loss on Saturday despite a game-high 22 points from Jake Althouse.

Jonathan Le had 11 points for the Rebels, while Kendall Kikkawa had seven.

Glendale 60, L.A. Marshall 57: The Nitros closed out the Burbank Winter Tournament on Saturday with a victory, which brought their record to 2-3.

St. Monica Academy 44, New Harvest Christian 38: The Crusaders improved to 2-1, 1-1 in the International League win at home Friday.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 5, Taft 1: The Falcons relinquished their first goal of the season in Saturday’s win in the Ralph Brandt Tournament, but still continued their impressive start.

Henry Barkhordarian tallied a hat trick in the match and Dallas Kaauwai had a goal and an assist. Ryan Sanfillippo also had a goal.

Crescenta Valley improved to 3-0, 2-0 in the tournament and has outscored its opponents by a combined 10-1 score.

St. Francis 1, Sylmar 0: The Golden Knights won at home Saturday in the Ralph Brandt Tournament to move to 2-0-1.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 2, Hoover 1: The Tornadoes were dealt their first loss, dropping to 2-1 on the season with Saturday’s loss in the Ralph Brandt Tournament.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 1, Pasadena Poly 1: The Tologs kept their record even at 1-1-1 with Saturday afternoon’s nonleague tie on the road.
