Sports Roundup: Flintridge Prep boys, girls win at Clovis

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Crescenta Valley, Flintridge Prep at Clovis Invitational: Perhaps Flintridge Prep turned in its most impressive effort of the season as it moved up a division and won the Division IV race on Saturday afternoon.

Flintridge Prep finished with 47 points and easily topped Cerritos Valley Christian, 47-99.

Junior Evan Pattinelli claimed victory in 15 minutes 47.2 seconds and was one of three Rebels to place in the top 10.

Seniors Jonathan Vahala (sixth, 16:34.6) and Riley Coan (seventh, 16:35.5) also aided the Rebels’ cause, while Chris Tan (16th, 16:50.8) and sophomore Carson Hasbrouck (17th, 16:56.4) closed out the scoring.

Crescenta Valley finished seventh with 221 points in the Division I race and posted two top-25 efforts.

Sophomore Manan Vats led Crescenta Valley and finished 20th in 16:03.7, while junior Zach Johnson placed 25th in 16:13.1.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Crescenta Valley, Flintridge Prep at Clovis Invitational: Competing in a division higher than normal, the Rebels still claimed a victory in the Division IV race of the highly competitive event in Fresno on Saturday afternoon.

Flintridge Prep held off Prep League-rival Mayfield, 72-118, with three of its scorers crossing through the top 10.

Junior Sophie Gitlin led the charge for Flintridge Prep and took seventh in 19:27.4, just ahead of Natalie O’Brien (eighth, 19:42.5) and Sasha Codiga (ninth, 19:46.2), while senior Maia Cohen finished 16th in 20:18.5.

La Cañada Flintridge resident McKenna Smith of Mayfield finished fourth in 19:03.2.

Against elite competition, Crescenta Valley took 26th in Division I with 583 points. Sophomore Melissa Owens (100th, 20:33) was her team’s top finisher.
