Sports Roundup: Flintridge Sacred Heart volleyball off to 2-0 start

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 3, Rancho Cucamonga 2: The Tologs rallied from a two-game deficit for a 20-25, 18-25, 25-16, 26-24, 15-13 nonleague victory Tuesday evening.

Kayla Lund finished with 24 kills, 19 assists and 11 digs, while Ellis DeJardin added 21 kills, 33 assists and 12 digs and Maddie Pernecky tallied 26 digs. The Tologs are now 2-0.

The Tologs opened the season Friday evening with a 25-11, 25-16, 25-17 win over crosstown rival La Cañada.

The Tologs received 16 kills, 10 assists, four aces and four blocks from Lund and 20 assists and nine kills from DeJardin.

Pilibos 3, Holy Family 0: The visiting Gaels (1-1) suffered a 25-9, 25-19, 25-18 nonleague defeat Monday.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 10, La Salle 8: The Tologs kicked off the season with a nonleague road victory Tuesday afternoon at Orange Grove Courts.

Temple City 11, Crescenta Valley 7: The visiting Falcons began their season Tuesday with a nonleague road defeat.

MEN’S SOCCER

Glendale Community Collge 3, Santa Monica College 0: The visiting Vaqueros (1-1) posted a nonconference win Tuesday. Glendale began its season Friday with a 2-1 road defeat against Fullerton.

WOMEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

Glendale Community College in Oxnard Invitational: The Vaqueros started their season Friday with a victory on the 5K course. Glendale, which won the state championship last season, collected 30 points after finishing with a time of 1 hour 35.22 seconds.

Glendale’s Giselle Masedo took second in 18:37.5. The Vaqueros also received a fourth-place finish from Fabiola Naranjo (18:55.9), followed by Leana Setian (eighth, 19:10.7), Angelica Salas (ninth, 19:14.3) and Fiona Faulkner (10th, 19:24.1).

MEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

Glendale Community College in Oxnard Invitational: Glendale began its season Friday by taking first in the four-mile race with 16 points. The Vaqueros, who had a time of 1 hour 46 minutes, received a first-place finish from Shane Thompson in 20 minutes 57.7 seconds.

Glendale got a second-place performance from Alejandro Ambrossio (21:02.6), followed by Luis Celaya (third, 21:16.7), Raymond Lopez (fourth, 21:18.3) and Paulo Vasquez (sixth, 21:25.6).
