COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 5, Oxnard College 1: The Vaqueros continued their simply torrid start to the season, improving to 5-0 with Friday’s nonconference road victory.

As has been synonymous with success for Glendale, its bullpen was outstanding on Friday with six relief pitchers combining to hold Oxnard scoreless over the final six innings.

John Vergara threw two innings of shutout ball with two strikeouts and one walk as his only blemish, while Angel Lerma closed out the win with 1 2/3 innings and a hit allowed.

Trailing, 1-0, GCC got a two-run single from Cristian Montes to score Chris Colarossi (hit, walk) and Seiji Kusakariba (two hits, two runs, walk) and never looked back.

Ricky Perez also had two runs, two walks and a hit and John Malott had two hits and a walk.

Making GCC’s start all the more impressive is that four of its games have been on the road.

St. Monica finished the regular season at 4-7-1, 4-5-1 in league.

Chadwick 2, Flintridge Prep 0: The Rebels lost their Prep League finale Thursday on the road.

With the defeat, Flintridge Prep finished 10-5-2, 2-4 in league, trailing champion Firebaugh, second-place Pasadena Poly and Chadwick.
