Sports Roundup: Glendale Community College baseball stays atop division with big win

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 9, West L.A. College 1: Glendale remained in first place following Tuesday’s Western State Conference South Division home win at Stengel Field. The Vaqueros improved to 26-8, 15-4 in the division with two games remaining. They own a one-game lead over Bakersfield and are two ahead of College of the Canyons.

Glendale received two runs and two hits from Jared Akins and two hits from Chris Colarossi.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Glendale Community College 14, 1, Santa Monica College 4, 9: The Vaqueros split a Western State Conference Blue Division road doubleheader Tuesday. Glendale is 8-31-1, 4-17 in the division.

SOFTBALL

Glendale 19, Muir 0 (five innings): Sammy Fabian had a home run, triple and single to extend her hitting streak to 59 games, while Esme Piedra also had three hits in Tuesday’s Pacific League home win.

Glendale (13-4, 7-2 in league), which has won seven in a row, also got a double and triple from Claire Smith.

Rio Hondo Prep 2, Flintridge Prep 0: The Rebels were held to two hits in Tuesday’s Prep League defeat on the road.

Therese Oshiro had six strikeouts in the losing effort for Flintridge Prep (9-4, 4-3 in league).

BASEBALL

Flintridge Prep 10, Rio Hondo Prep 0: Aidan Schraeder struck out six in six innings Tuesday to lift the visiting Rebels in a Prep League contest. Hamilton Evans collected four hits and scored three runs for Flintridge Prep (11-5, 7-0 in league).

Glendale 1, Muir 0: The Nitros earned a Pacific League road win Tuesday. Glendale (4-15, 3-6 in league) saw reliever Orlando Diez pick up the win. Diez, who threw a no-hitter against Pasadena on Friday, struck out two in three innings.

Arcadia 10, Hoover 0 (five innings): The Tornadoes only had two hits in a Pacific League home defeat Tuesday. The Tornadoes dropped to 4-15, 2-7 in league.

BOYS’ GOLF

Flintridge Prep in Prep League individual prelims: The Rebels had a pair of players in the field of 28 compete Tuesday at Brookside Golf Course No. 2 in Pasadena. Ben Sacks recorded an eight-over-par 78 and Jonah Sacks carded an 80.

Ben Sacks is tied for third entering the league final Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Brookside Golf Course No. 1 and Jonah Sacks, the reigning league champion, is in fifth. The top four from the field of 15 will advance to the CIF Individual Tournament.

St. Francis 192, Arcadia 208: Eric Lin carded a three-under-par 33 on Monday for St. Francis in a nonleague home meet at Oakmont Country Club. Tommy Altmayer added a 38 for the Golden Knights.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Glendale 91, Hoover 79: Visiting Glendale picked up a Pacific League win Tuesday. Trenton Julian won the 200-yard individual medley in 1 minute 50.52 seconds and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.18). Anthony Ovsepyan took first for Glendale in the 200 freestyle (1:57.66) and 100 butterfly (55,64).

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Glendale 92, Hoover 75: The Nitros earned a Pacific League road win Tuesday. Glendale received first-place efforts from Stephanie Carrillo in the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes 32.94 seconds and Kaylin Lo in the 500 freestyle (6:12.94).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Temple City 3, Flintridge Prep 1: The visiting Rebels (15-2) saw Temple City post a 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 25-19 nonleague win. Flintridge Prep received 21 kills from Dante Fregoso, and nine from Miles Johnson.

Loyola 3, St. Francis 0: Visiting St. Francis fell, 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 Mission League defeat Tuesday. The Golden Knights (10-8, 4-5 in league) received 12 kills from Sean Stephen and 22 assists from David Thompson.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Flintridge Prep 10, Chadwick 8: The Rebels picked up a Prep League home win Tuesday at Arcadia Tennis Center. Flintridge Prep (8-6, 3-2 in league received a sweep in doubles from Gillies Linde and Christian Yeghanazar (6-1, 6-3, 6-2).

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Chaminade 14, Glendale 4: The Nitros lost a Pacific League road match Tuesday.
