Sports Roundup: Glendale Community College baseball wins fifth in a row

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 6, Golden West College 3: The visiting Vaqueros (10-3) notched a nonconference win Friday. Glendale has won five straight games.

The Vaqueros got three hits each from Frank Garriola and Troy Viola and two apiece from Bruno Teramoto, Cristian Montes and Thad Wilson. John Malott drove in two runs for the Vaqueros.

Starting pitcher Chris Davidson struck out eight and allowed six hits and two runs in five innings. Reliever Chasen Gensurowsky got the final out for the save.

On Thursday, Glendale recorded a 2-1 nonconference win against L.A. Harbor at Stengel Field. Beau O’Connell hit a game-winning solo home run in the sixth inning to make it 2-1. Malott had a run-scoring single in the fifth to make it 1-1.

Glendale reliever AJ Jimenez went the last four innings to pick up the win. He allowed three hits and struck out one.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 7, Cerritos College 2: Glendale (5-2) cruised to a nonconference win Friday.

The Vaqueros got singles wins from Tsukimi Ono (6-1, 6-3), Kanako Kihara (2-6, 6-3, 10-5) and Melody Emmanouildi (6-2, 6-1). Iy also picked up a forfeit victory.

In doubles, the Vaqueros picked up victories from Ono and Veronika Galstyan (8-5) and Hailey McNall and Kihara (8-6), in addition to one forfeit win.

Host Glendale notched a 5-4 Western State Conference win against rival Santa Barbara on Thursday.

Glendale (3-1 in conference) received singles victories from McNall (7-5, 6-2), Ono (6-2, 6-2) and Kihara (6-2, 6-2).

In doubles, Glendale got wins from Ono and Galstyan (8-1) and McNall and Kihara (8-3).

MEN’S TENNIS

Cerritos College 9, Glendale Community College 0: The visiting Vaqueros (7-2) fell Thursday in a nonconference match.

On Wednesday, Glendale suffered a 7-2 nonconference defeat against visiting Brandeis University. The Vaqueros received a singles win from Steven Sandoval (3-6, 6-3, 10-5) and a doubles victory from Christian and Kevin Orellana (8-6).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Crescenta Valley 16, South Pasadena 2: The Falcons began their season Thursday with a nonleague home victory.
