Sports Roundup: Glendale Community College women’s tennis moves into first

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 5, Bakersfield College 4: Host Glendale moved into a tie for first place following Friday’s Western State Conference victory. Glendale (9-2, 6-1 in conference) is tied for first with Bakersfield.

The Vaqueros got singles wins from Tsukimi Ono (6-1, 6-1), Veronika Galstyan (6-0, 6-1), Kanako Kihara (6-2, 3-6, 7-6(7-3) and Melody Emmanouildi (6-1, 5-7, 6-2).

They received a win in doubles from Ono and Galstyan (8-3).

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 9, Bakersfield College 0: Glendale picked up Western State Conference road win Thursday. The Vaqueros improved to 4-2 in conference.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Crescenta Valley 97, San Marino 66: The Falcons (2-0-1) earned a nonleague home win Thursday. The Falcons received two wins from Gabby Icheva in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute 58.29 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1.08.93).

Kimmy Park won the 100 freestyle in 56.22 for the Falcons, who received a first-place effort from Miya Higuchi in the 100 butterfly (1.00.65).

BOYS’ GOLF

St. Francis 187, South Pasadena 236: St. Francis received one-over-par 37s from Stian Lindvelt and David Emerson on Thursday in a nonleague match at Brookside Golf Course No. 1 in Pasadena.

Aidan Tracey and Henry Fitzhugh had 40s for the Golden Knights (4-1).

Flintridge Prep 200, Azusa 263: Flintridge Prep (3-2) picked up a nonleague win Thursday at Azusa Greens Golf Course. The Rebels got a one-over-par 35 from Ben Sacks and 39s from Justin Yu and Brendan Barton.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Crescenta Valley 15, Pasadena 3: The Falcons rolled to a Pacific League win at home Thursday. Crescenta Valley improved to 4-1, 3-0 in league.

Glendale 12, Burroughs 6: Glendale picked up a Pacific League road win Thursday. The Nitros improved to 2-3, 2-2 in league.

La Cañada 14, St. Francis 4: The Golden Knights got three wins in singles from Jack Freer (6-0, 6-1, 6-4) on Thursday in a nonleague home match at Scholl Canyon Tennis Center.

SOFTBALL

Flintridge Prep 12, Ramona Convent 1: Flintridge Prep rolled to a nonleague home victory Thursday. The Rebels are 2-2.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

St. Francis 80, Crespi 46: The Golden Knights picked up their first victory of the season on Thursday afternoon on the road in Mission League action.

Stuart Serventi won the 1,600-meter race (4 minutes, 52.87 seconds), Matthew Molina captured the 110 hurdles (16.17), Taylor Bosveld won the 100 dash (11.64), Michael Guzman captured the 200 (23.62), Ignacio De La Torre claimed the 800 (2:09.20), Michael Lon won the long jump (18 feet, 4 1/2 inches), Malachi Jenson clinched the high jump (5-6) and the 1,600-meter relay squad was victorious in 3:36.21 for St. Francis, which improved to 1-1.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Palos Verdes 16, Glendale 15: Visiting Glendale (3-2) got five goals from Rachel Fong and four each from Maura Fernandez and Erika Lopez on Thursday in a nonleague match.
