Sports Roundup: Glendale girls’, boys’ hoops squads best rival Hoover in finales

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Glendale 59, Hoover 23: Glendale finished up the regular season with a Pacific League home win. The playoff-bound Nitros improved to 16-12, 7-5 in league for fourth place. Hoover finished 1-22, 0-12.

Flintridge Prep 45, Westridge 26: Flintridge Prep received a team-high 16 points from Kaitlyn Chen and eight each from Renae Tamura and Taylor Yoshida on Thursday in a Prep League road contest. The Prep League champion Rebels improved to 23-2, 12-0 in league.

Chaminade 74, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 40: The visiting Tologs got 14 points from Camilla Homans on Thursday in a Mission League defeat. The Tologs dipped to 8-19, 1-7 in league.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Crescenta Valley 77, Arcadia 76: Crescenta Valley concluded the regular season Thursday at home with a Pacific League win.

Koko Kechichian finished with 27 points for the Falcons, who got 17 from Journey Shank and 15 from Trey Ballard.

The Falcons are 18-8, 10-4 in league.

Glendale 51, Hoover 39: Host Glendale got 22 points from Daniel Madden and 10 each from Eli Degrate and Larrenz Carrino in a Pacific League finale Thursday. The Nitros improved to 12-15, 3-11 in league to tie for sixth place.

Angel Mino had 11 points for Hoover, which finished 7-19, 1-13.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 7, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 3: The Tologs won Thursday in the third-place match of the Mission League Tournament at Harvard-Westlake. The Tologs improved to 12-10, 5-4 in league..

Burroughs 10, Glendale 9: The Nitros were unable to hold on to a 6-3 halftime lead in Thursday’s Pacific League Tournament third-place match at Burbank High.

Elen Muradyan had three goals for Glendale (7-8, 3-5 in league).

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Glendale 4, Hoover 0: Host Glendale closed out the regular season Thursday with a Pacific League win.

The Nitros (7-10-1, 5-8-1 in league for fifth place) received two goals from Ani Krikorian and one apiece from Sophia Noriega and Giselle Navarro.

Hoover finished 6-11, 4-10 for seventh place.

Arcadia 5, Crescenta Valley 1: Sierra Lindman Marshall scored off an assist from Shelby Reif for the Falcons in a Pacific League road match Thursday. Crescenta Valley finished the regular season 16-4-1, 11-2-1 in league for second place.

Albert Einstein Academy 6, St. Monica Academy 0: The host Crusaders dropped a Heritage League home match Thursday. St. Monica fell to 7-4-2, 6-3-1 in league.

MEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community Collge 9, Bakersfield College 0: Host Glendale started Western State Conference action Thursday with a win.

The Vaqueros (4-0) got singles victories from Christian Hess (6-2, 6-3), Chris Pope (6-0, 6-1), Arin Meserkhani (6-3, 6-3), Kevin Orellana (6-1, 6-1), John Robertson (6-3, 6-2) and Steven Sandoval (6-1, 6-0).

Glendale got doubles wins from Pope and David Preciado (8-2), Hrant Agakhanyan and Chris Ghadimi (8-3) and Masaki Kimura/Andres Simental (8-1).

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Bakersfield College 6, Glendale Community College 3: The Vaqueros began Western State Conference play Thursday with a road defeat.

Glendale (1-2) got wins in singles from Tsukimi Ono (6-1, 6-2) and Kanako Kihara (7-6(7-5), 6-0). The Vaqueros got a doubles victory from Ono and Hailey McNall (8-1).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 58, Barstow College 55: Glendale picked up a Western State Conference East Division road win Wednesday. The Vaqueros improved to 15-10, 5-2 in the division.
