Sports Roundup: Glendale men’s basketball thumps Canyons

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 79, College of the Canyons 56: The Vaqueros won their third straight game on Saturday night at home in Western State Conference South Division action.

GCC improved to 11-11 and 8-2 at home.

The Vaqs are 7-3 in the division and alone in second place with four games left in the season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

College of the Canyons 71, Glendale Community College 47: The Vaqueros couldn’t upset the first-place Cougars on Saturday at home.

GCC dropped to 3-20, 0-10 in the Western State Conference South Division with its 11th consecutive loss.

Maria Quejada had 10 points and four rebounds for GCC, while Angela Basco also had 10 points.

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College at Mt. SAC Opener: Sophomore Vahagn Isayan began his season in successful fashion on Friday with a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter run in 8 minutes 50.99 seconds, six second behind unattached winner Teddy Kassa (8:44.81).

Glendale’s 800 sprint medley relay won in 1:32.30. The GCC men’s 4x100 relay team also finished second in 42.78, the first heat of the 4x400 relay (3:23.88) and the 4x800 in 8:02.9.

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College at Mt. SAC Opener: The women’s 4x800-meter relay team won on Friday in 10 minutes 12.70 seconds.

Freshman Fabiola Naranjo took third in the 3,000-meter run in 11:22.6.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Glendale Adventist Academy 21, Yeshiva University of Los Angeles 19: The Cougars evened their record at 8-8 with Thursday’s Liberty League win at home.
