GIRLS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 4, Temple City 1: Flintridge Sacred Heart opened the season Tuesday, getting a hat trick from Hillary Howard to post a nonleague home win at Occidental College.

Glendale 4, Village Christian 0: The Nitros began their season Tuesday with a nonleague home win. Glendale received one goal each from Giselle Navarro, Rita Grogorian, Ella Wasson and Leslie Flamenco.

BOYS’ SOCCER

St. Francis 3, Canyon Country Canyon 1: Christian Ibarra had two goals and Nick Maldonado added two assists Tuesday to power the visiting Golden Knights in a season-opening nonleague win. Mike Guzman added a goal for St. Francis.

Hoover 3, Bakersfield 1: The Tornadoes (2-0) picked up a nonleague home win Saturday.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

La Salle 54, St. Monica Academy 29: Molly Hagan had 13 points and Hannah Acosta had 10 in the Crusaders’ season-opening loss Monday in the San Marino Tournament.

Immaculate Heart 49, Hoover 31: Hoover fell Tuesday in its season opener in a pool-play game of the Rosemead Tournament. The Tornadoes got 14 points from Mary Cantos.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Oaks Christian 76, Glendale 45: Glendale tipped off its season Monday with a Burbank Tournament defeat.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College in L.A. Pierce Tournament: The Vaqueros took third in the three-day event, which concluded Sunday with a 70-43 win against Mira Costa. Celeste Miller finished with 15 points and nine rebounds and Kristina Sahakian added 12 points for Glendale (7-3).

Glendale began the tournament Friday with a 53-45 victory against San Diego Mesa before suffering a 53-45 loss against Skagit (Washington state) on Saturday.
