GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Redondo Union 15, Crescenta Valley 6: Hopes of a postseason victory came up short for the Falcons on the road in the first round of the United States Lacrosse Southern Section Los Angeles Division I playoffs on Tuesday evening.

The No. 14 Falcons were within 4-1 at the 16:30 mark before No. 3 Redondo closed out the first half with a 6-2 run to go up, 10-3.

The victory vaults Redondo into Thursday’s second round against West Ranch or Los Angeles Birmigham.

Crescenta Valley, which finished second in the Pacific League, concluded its season with a 9-5 record and a first-ever playoff appearance.

“It’s a little bit hard right now for the coaching staff to put this season in perspective because we’ve seen the potential of our kids,” Crescenta Valley Coach Boz Crowther said. “We started three freshmen and three other players who have only been playing for 18 months. For them to have this success has been amazing.”

Samara Yarnes led Crescenta Valley with three goals.
