Sports Roundup: St. Francis basketball drops tourney on buzzer-beater

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Palos Verdes 61, St. Francis 60: The Golden Knights lost the championship game of the El Segundo Tournament on a buzzer-beater Friday evening.

Joey Walsh led St. Francis (3-1) with 17 points and nine rebounds, while junior Malakhi Jensen tallied 14 points, six rebounds and six assists.

“You know, we were leading in every single game for every single minute up until the last second of the last game,” St. Francis Coach Todd Wolfson said. “That’s the only lead we ever gave up, on a game-winning shot. That’s basketball.”

Claremont 84, Hoover 46: The Tornadoes (4-3) dropped a pool-play game in the Artesia Tournament on Friday. Hoover got 18 points from Angel Mino.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 2, Glendale 1: Visiting Crescenta Valley got a goal from from Alex Atanackovic and Henry Barkhordarian on Friday to pick up a Pacific League win.

The Falcons improved to 5-1, 2-0 in league.

Glendale (1-1 in league) received a goal from Harut Malkon.

Flintridge Prep 6, San Marino 0: Tim Treinen and Garrett Gaines tallied two goals each as the Rebels improved to 3-0-1 on Friday.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 75, San Gabriel Mission 20: Camilla Homans finished with 20 points and Tori Conlon added 19 on Friday to lead the Tologs (4-4) in a pool-play game of the Pasadena Poly Tournament.

Flintridge Sacred Heart will meet Holy Martyrs in the tournament’s title match at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 62, Cypress College 51: The Vaqueros (5-4) got 23 points from Serigne Athj and 14 from Fredy Kuo on Friday in a semifinal contest of the Cypress Tournament.

Glendale began the tournament Thursday with a 71-65 win versus Cuyamaca. Athj paced Glendale with 26 points.

Glendale will meet Moorpark in the championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday.
