A 30-year-old mother suspected of abandoning her infant on a sidewalk near Carr Park in Glendale was arrested Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Police found the baby, who is between three and six months old, in a car seat on the sidewalk of East Harvard Street near the park, said Glendale Police Sgt. Robert William.

The child was not in any medical distress, but was transported to Glendale Adventist as a precaution.

According to police, the baby’s parents, who live at a nearby motel, had gotten into a fight Friday afternoon. As the father took off on a bike, the mother, identified as Sevana Markareh, told him to take the baby.

He told police he didn’t hear Markareh, and she subsequently left the child on the sidewalk and drove away, William said.

The infant’s father, identified as 39-year-old Rabert Amir, reportedly returned to the scene after hearing police helicopters in the area.

Police arrested Amir on suspicion of domestic violence for allegedly throwing a makeup bag at Markareh earlier this week, leaving a scratch on her forehead. Markareh was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and child abandonment.

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services took custody of the baby.
