Public input will set priorities for parks and rec in La Crescenta, north Glendale

Local residents will have an opportunity to let the Crescenta Valley Town Council know their priorities for new or existing park and recreation facilities in La Crescenta and north Glendale during a workshop on Saturday.

Residents will be able to cast 10 votes regarding what they want in local facilities, whether it’s an entirely new project or facility upgrades. Each person’s votes can be spread over several projects or concentrated on just one.

The votes will be turned over to the Los Angeles County Department of Parks & Recreation and then compiled into a report for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The unincorporated area of La Crescenta and Montrose is one of 189 study areas in Los Angeles County that officials are seeking public input about in order to make spending decisions tied to park and facility improvements.

Crescenta Valley Town Council President Leslie Dickson said she hopes residents living in La Crescenta or north Glendale will participate in the workshop.

“The voting is the important component,” she said. “Those vote sheets actually get attached to the report. We need to demonstrate that, yes, the community did want this project over another project.”

Some residents have already expressed interest in replacing root-obstructed walkways in local parks with smoother ones so they are more easily accessible for people in wheelchairs or seniors using walkers, she added. Others have requested improved lighting at Crescenta Valley Park or construction of a community swimming pool.

“These places are being used daily by our residents,” Dickson said. “It is important that our parks meet the needs of all of our residents.”

The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the cafeteria at Rosemont Middle School, located at 4725 Rosemont Ave.
