Glendale police seek man caught on camera stealing smartphone

Police are searching for a man who was caught on tape pocketing a Samsung Galaxy 6 cellphone worth $750 at the Glendale Galleria AT&T store, police said.

Around 7 p.m. on Dec. 12, the suspect – described as a Hispanic man in his late 30s, roughly 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a heavy build and facial hair – stood at the display table and took off the phone’s security cord before shoving it in his pocket, according to Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

After browsing for another several minutes, the man left the store.

He reportedly returned later with a young boy and a woman, but they left after the woman activated an alarm trying to remove the security cord off of another phone. It’s unclear why they left, as the alarm is inaudible to shoppers, Lightfoot said.

Anyone with information about the theft suspect is asked to call Glendale police at (818) 548-4911.
