The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level.

Camille Coffey (Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, 2011) Fairfield volleyball senior: In another example of her longevity and talent, Coffey hit another career touchstone recently when she tallied her 1,000th dig at Fairfield.

A two-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team and three-time MAAC honor roll member, Coffey became the 14th player in school history to reach the 1,000-dig plateau on Sunday in a 3-1 win against Saint Peter’s.

“One-thousand digs is a great accomplishment,” Stags Coach Todd Kress told the school’s website. “The entire team is happy for Camille on such an accomplishment.”

Coffey had a match-high 21 digs to go along with four assists in the match.

The win was the third in a row for the Stags, who evened their record at 9-9 and improved to 5-3 in conference. It was also part of the resume that earned Coffey the honor of MAAC Libero of the Week. In a pair of wins, including one over the previously undefeated Rider, Coffey posted identical numbers of 21 digs and four assists. She also had just one reception error in 69 opportunities (.986 %).

Coffey is currently third in the conference with 4.78 digs per set, as she’s tallied a team-high 277 over 58 sets.

The Stags have a two-match conference homestand on the horizon, with Canisius on Saturday and Niagara on Sunday.

Collin Keoshian (Glendale Community College, 2013) Illinois State football senior: The former offensive standout at Glendale college and in high school, Keoshian has transformed into a consistent pass-rushing threat on the defensive line for Illinois State.

Playing their first road game of the season Saturday, the Red Birds (5-0, 2-0 in Missouri Valley Football Conference) notched their closest win of the year, defeating Indiana State, 20-18. Keoshian registered five tackles and a sack in the game — it was the fourth consecutive game he’s notched a sack.

For the season, he’s notched 20 tackles and a team-leading four sacks.

Up next for Illinois State is another conference road game against Western Illinois.

Enrique Ramirez (Glendale Community College, 2014) Cal State San Marcos cross-country junior: Cal State San Marcos ran to a second-place finish Oct. 4 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational with Ramirez coming in as his team’s second scorer.

The junior clocked 25 minutes 44.4 seconds in the 8,000-meter race to take 10th place overall.

Ramirez and Co. are back on the course Saturday, when they host the Cougar Challenge.

Hakop Kaplanyan (Clark Magnet, 2012) L.A. Valley water polo freshman: The UCLA transfer who led Hoover High to its greatest seasons is now leading the Monarchs alongside Glendale High product Arman Momdzhyan.

Valley had won seven straight heading into action on Wednesday, having built a 10-3 record.

Kaplanyan, who’s tallied 44 goals, leads the Western State Conference with 4.4 steals per game (48 steals total) and 40 assists.

Momdzhyan, the conference’s athlete of the week for Oct. 9, is also turning in stellar numbers with 52 goals, 31 steals and 28 assists.

Crescenta Valley product Nate Fernandez is also on the team and has garnered five goals, 24 steals and 18 assists.

Biyouregh Boghozian (Glendale High, 2013) L.A. Valley water polo sophomore: Under former Crescenta Valley High Coach Pete Loporchio, Boghozian is one of a handful of local players leading the way for the Lady Monarchs.

Boghozian’s 38 goals (3.8 per game) are far and away the team lead for Valley, which is 6-4 and 0-2 in the Western State Conference. She’s also tallied 12 steals and 11 assists.
