Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich visited North Korea in 2012 to learn about the secretive country's customs and economy.
[For the Record, March 11: A previous version of this story incorrectly referred to this visit as recently occurring, when in fact, the visit took place in 2012.]
Antonovich went at the invitation of the Pacific Council on International Policy, a nonprofit group based in Los Angeles, his spokesman, Tony Bell, told the L.A. Times.
The trip was privately funded and no tax dollars were used, Bell said. None of Antonovich's staff accompanied him on the trip.
