Burbank names new city attorney

The city attorney for Thousand Oaks has been tapped for the chief legal spot in Burbank, city officials confirmed Thursday.

Amy Albano will officially begin Oct. 17 if the City Council votes to confirm her to the job, as expected. She will replace City Atty. Dennis Barlow, who is retiring after close to 14 years of service. He announced his retirement in January.

Albano joined the city of Thousand Oaks in 2005 after 14 years in the city of Ventura, also as a city attorney.

“She’s a problem solver, a very seasoned attorney and solution oriented,” Mayor Jess Talamantes said. “She has great people skills and will be a great benefit to Burbank.”

Albano’s 20 years of experience in municipal government and experience with the legal division of the California League of Cities made her an excellent choice, he added.

“She’s looking forward to the challenges Burbank brings,” Talamantes said, noting that Burbank has an airport and its own utility.

In a statement, Albano said she looked forward to the potential for professional growth offered in Burbank.

Twenty seven people applied for the position between April 11 and May 20, said city spokesman Keith Sterling. Albano was one of the three finalists for the position.

Her monthly salary will be $18,334, Sterling said.

The City Council is scheduled to vote vote to make her appointment official at a meeting on Sept. 20.

The city attorney and city manager are appointed positions that report directly to the City Council.
