L.A. Creamery closes store at the Americana

L.A. Creamery, known for its skyrocketing success by opening three locations in just a few years, closed its third and final store Monday in the Americana at Brand, reported Eater L.A.

“We were so sad to leave The Americana,” L.A. Creamery owner Brad Saltzman told the News-Press in an email. “Rick Caruso was amazing and tried to help us stay, but we had a horrible landlord who we sub-leased from that wanted us out and refused to work with us.”

The ice cream company, known for serving in small batches, had grown quickly, opening shops in the Westfield Topanga and Westfield Fashion Square before the Americana site. However, poor locations and a lack of foot traffic led to the closures of all its stores, according to Eater L.A.

“It’s true the two Westfield locations just killed us,” Saltzman said.

In July, as L.A. Creamery Saltzman was closing the Westfield Topanga site, he told the blog Grub Street Los Angeles that his store at the Americana at Brand was “doing blockbuster business” and he was “turning his own brand off of indoor malls for the time being and embracing the outdoor approach.”

L.A. Creamery was planning to open a store in Newport Beach, according to the L.A. Creamery website.

However, Eater L.A. reported that the entire retail division of L.A. Creamery has shut down.
