Minor injuries reported in two-alarm house fire in Glendale

Firefighters on Friday knocked down a two-alarm house fire in Glendale, where pack rat conditions complicated the response, officials said.

The fire was reported at 1:03 p.m. at a single-story house in the 1300 block of North Jackson Street, where firefighters arrived to find a woman standing outside fighting the blaze with a garden hose, city spokesman Tom Lorenz said. The woman, who was not identified, suffered unspecified minor injuries, he added.

When firefighters attempted to access the attic from inside, pack rat conditions forced them to tear holes into the roof instead, Lorenz said.

The crammed conditions inside the home were expected to lead to an “extended stay” for firefighters as they mopped up the scene, Lorenz added.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
