Unemployment rates fall across tri-city region

The unemployment rate for the greater Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena region dropped in November alongside the state figure, according to the data released Friday.

The jobless rates for the three largest cities — Glendale, Pasadena and Burbank — each dropped 0.4% in November compared to October, according to the California Employment Development Department.

The declines put the unemployment rate at 8.6% in Glendale, 7.5% in Pasadena and 8% in Burbank.

The declines were driven by job gains in retail, transportation and warehousing.

Statewide, the jobless rate edged down to 9.8%, from 10.1% in October.

In the La Crescenta-Montrose area, unemployment dropped by 0.3% to 4.8%, while the jobless rate in La Cañada Flintridge ticked down 0.2% to 3.8%.

The unemployment rate in South Pasadena dipped 0.2% to 4.9% and it declined 0.3% in San Marino to 4.4%.

Over the year, California has added 268,600 nonfarm jobs, the second-largest yearly increase. The unemployment rate has fallen 1.5 percentage points since November 2011, the L.A. Times reported.

In addition, October’s job gains were revised slightly downward to 38,800 jobs compared to the 45,800 originally reported last month.
