Youth Scene: Teams compete in TOC

Laguna Beach Little League teams took to the District 55 Tournament of Champions divisional play last week, and the five competing teams were eliminated from title contention.

Majors Division

Rotary and Hobie carried the Laguna Beach banner into the district’s double-elimination tournament.

Hobie played three games at the Tournament of Champions before it was eliminated from the double-elimination event. Hobie won its opener, 8-6 over the Laguna Niguel White Sox, then dropped consecutive games to Laguna Beach Rotary, 3-1, and the Laguna Niguel Red Sox, 8-6, in games played at Chapparosa Park in Laguna Niguel.

The Hobie roster: Zack Bonnin, Dylan Brashier, Lance Detweiler, Connor Fink, Drew Fink, Jeremy Hayes, Will Keary, Adam Kerfoot, Jamie Mackay, Quinn Novick, Trason Thomas, Milo Zegowitz.

AAA Division

UPS, Gapp Construction and McKenna BMW represented Laguna Beach at the district’s double-elimination tournament played at Laguna’s Riddle Field.

In tournament openers, UPS fell, 11-9, to the Aliso Viejo Yankees, Gapp dropped a 10-6 game to the Laguna Niguel Pirates, and McKenna BMW was upended, 10-2, by the Aliso Viejo A’s. In an elimination game between two Laguna teams, McKenna BMW eliminated UPS by a score of 11-8. In another bracket game, Gapp Construction was eliminated following an 11-10 loss to the Laguna Niguel Angels.

McKenna BMW was eliminated from the tournament, 10-0, by the Aliso Viejo A’s.

AA Division

La Sirena Grill and Javier’s, the top two teams from Laguna Beach Little League, took on two teams from Laguna Niguel in an exhibition tournament between the two leagues at Riddle Field.

La Sirena, which won both the regular season and postseason tournament titles in LBLL play, fell, 15-2, to the Laguna Niguel Cubs. The La Sirena Grill roster: Redmond Chesley, Cade Anderton, Luke Fetzer, Jackson Baldwin, Ryan Loughlin, Lucas Durand, Oliver Rounaghi, Ben Dawson, Ryan Smith, Zade Harrison, Jackson Lawsky. Coaches: Chad Anderton, Shawn Baldwin, Jamie Harrison, Rob Durand, Craig Dawson, Patrick Fetzer.

Javier’s, which turned in a strong season and finished in second-place in both LBLL regular season and postseason tournament action, dropped a 13-7 game to Laguna Niguel. The Javier’s roster: Ayden Ardell, Chase Bryan, Cole Curtis, Luke Duensing, Hunter Harrington, Mason Herr, Gehrig Mackay, Jake Mauro, Dylan McEachern, Hutch Paddock, Logan Pointon, Hudson Saunders. Coaches: Eric Bryan, Don Saunders, Joe Mackay.

All-Stars

Laguna Beach Little League will announce its All-Star teams Saturday at Riddle Field.

Laguna teams will compete June 27-July 8 at the District 55 All-Star Tournament.
