Motorcyclist arrested after leading Glendale police on pursuit

A Glendale man was arrested Saturday night after he led police on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen motorcycle and then crashed, police said.

Romik Kazaryan, 29, was taken into custody about 9:42 p.m. after engaging police in a 3.6-mile pursuit with speeds reaching 80 mph on city streets, according to Glendale police.

The pursuit stopped after he hit a parked car, then left the motorcycle and ran away, police said. They eventually found Kazaryan hiding under a car in the parking lot of a liquor store in the 1600 block of Colorado Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Officers tried to stop Kazaryan at Monterey Road and Cordova Avenue, where he allegedly made an illegal U-turn. Kazaryan was reportedly on probation for possessing methamphetamine and had his license taken away in 2011, according to police.

At one point during the chase, police lost sight of Kazaryan due to the distance between them and the motorcycle. The motorcycle was reported stolen in October 2011 in Santa Clarita, police said.

He was arrested on suspicion of grand theft auto, possessing methamphetamine, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving with a suspended license and evading a police officer, police said.

Police reportedly found a plastic bag containing methamphetamine that fell from his clothing while he was at a hospital for evaluation.
