Parolee suspected of robbing seniors after their visits to the bank

GLENDALE — Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said a 41-year-old parolee may be responsible for robbing four seniors, including two in Glendale, after they were followed home from their banks.

Authorities were able to link parolee Lee Jones and his black Dodge Charger to a robbery of an 82-year-old woman on the 25000 block of Bowie Court in Stevenson Ranch, said sheriff’s Lt. Steve Low of the Santa Clarita Valley station.

Low declined to release details about the robbery until the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office filed formal charges against Jones, who is being held in a county jail.

Jones had already been arrested and charged on suspicion of possessing cocaine for sale when detectives linked him to the Stevenson Ranch robbery, officials said

Still, Low said in a statement that Jones, a Lancaster resident, may be connected to other robberies in Acton and Glendale.

Glendale detectives are still investigating whether Jones is responsible for the two similar robberies that occurred April 30 on the 200 block of North Adams Street and 200 block of North Kenwood Street, Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

The robbery suspect allegedly watched as the victims, both women, withdrew money from their local banks and then followed them home, Low said in the statement. That’s when he allegedly robbed them, authorities said.

The Glendale women — ages 76 and 88 — were pushed to the ground before their purses were stolen, Lorenz said.

The women sustained bumps and bruises, but were not seriously injured, he added.
