We have had some very interesting weather lately. One day the temperature shoots up to the 80s, and the next day, we are freezing. But April 29 turned out to be a gorgeous day with the sun shining brightly on the
Sunrise Kiwanis Mayor’s Cup 14th annual Charity Golf Tournament organized by Mike Caggiano. The most important winners of this fundraising event are the 2011-12 beneficiaries of the Burbank Sunrise Kiwanis Foundation’s sponsored youth programs in our fair city.
The Flight A winners were Team Comcast
(second year in a row!) composed of Darnell Tyler, Al Olivas, Charlie Baker and Brad Lander. Flight B winners were Team BCEA (Burbank City Employees Assn.) composed of Darrin Borders, Bob Kaczmarek, Brian Mole and David Orozco. Chris Kesicbasian and Brandon Shin of
High School teamed with Kenny Cunanan and Brady Dunayer of Burbank High School to be the high school champs.
Cusumano Realty Group, Comcast NBC Universal and City of Burbank Community Development Department were the title sponsors. A special Burbank Centennial Celebration at the Mayor’s Cup included state Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-
) and representatives of
County Supervisor Mike Antonovich and Rep.
(D-Burbank) presenting certificates and proclamations of congratulations to Mayor Anja Reinke and the former mayors in attendance.

KIWANIS HONORS OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS
The Burbank Noon Kiwanis Club is dedicated to the children of our community and contributes substantial funds to numerous youth programs in Burbank. One of its special annual functions is the Kiwanis Outstanding Educator Awards Luncheon, which honors one outstanding educator from each school in the Burbank Unified School District, as well as any retiring teachers.

The individual educators were selected by their principals and peers based on at least five years of experience working primarily with students on a regular basis; enthusiasm for learning and a love of students; dedication, effectiveness and competence, as shown through the growth of their pupils; commitment to the professional growth of other teachers; involvement over and above normal job requirements including some community and/or professional involvement.
The educator’s recognition consists of a Kiwanis Certificate and a gift card to purchase educational materials for the class. This year’s luncheon celebration was held on May 4 and organized by Kiwanian Kimberly Jo. Certificates were presented by staff from Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank), state Sen.
(D-La Cañada Flintridge), state Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Silver Lake) and Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich. School board members Larry Applebaum, Dave Kemp, Ted Bunch and Debbie Kukta were present. Kukta presented a special award to honor retiring teacher Sandra Baade as well as recognized the service of Principal Bruce Osgood who will be joining Village Christian.
