Shoppers weigh in on Walmart

Share

Reaction about the possible opening of a Walmart was mixed among shoppers Wednesday outside the Target and Marshalls stores in the Empire Center.

“I think it would be great, but I think it’s probably going to take away from Target, for sure. I’d check it out. I’ve heard it’s so good. I’ve never actually been in one.”

Rae-Lyn Daza, 35

“Walmart is too overbearing. Too crowded. Too many people. To me, it’s not worth the savings. But it’s good for a lot of people, especially with the economy and unemployment.”

Brad Williams, 37

“I’ve kind of been waiting for a Walmart. I don’t want to have to drive all over the county just to get to Walmart. And I don’t think it’s going to hurt the center here.”

LaWanda Geary, 69

“I’m out of work right now, so I actually go out of my way to go to Santa Clarita to shop at the Walmart. If there was one in Burbank, I would be shopping there as well.”

Anthony Gaspard, 46

“We won’t have to go far to get all the stuff that you can get at Walmart. I’m looking forward to it.”

Archana Bandi, 33

“I’ll probably go to Walmart over any of the stores here. I’ve heard that prices are cheaper. However, I do not like the way they treat their employees.”

Arman Krpoyan, 18, referring to the fact that Walmart is not unionized.

“I don’t think it will change my shopping habits. I think I may stay away a little bit more because of the traffic. I already come here not so often because of getting in and out of the parking lot. But with Walmart, I probably wouldn’t come here.”

Elsie Lau, 33

“It will bring people out. So, I’m encouraged that they’re going to hire folks. If it keeps us in the marketplace, I like that.”

Bob O’Leary, 64

“I’m personally not a big fan of Walmart. I’ve heard on the news how they’re so competitive and lower prices to outdo other stores.”

Cindy Flores, 32
