Glendale Memorial receives accreditation
Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center has been granted a three-year accreditation in echocardiography in the area of adult transthoracic by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.
Early detection of life-threatening heart disorders and other diseases is possible through the use of echocardiography procedures performed within hospitals, outpatient centers and physician offices. While these tests are helpful, there are many facets that contribute to an accurate diagnosis based on echocardiography testing.
“This accreditation recognizes the high standard of service and expert level of care available in the echocardiography department at the Heart Center at Glendale Memorial Hospital,” said Daniel Goodwin, medical director of the hospital’s echocardiography lab.
Accreditation by the commission means that Glendale Memorial Hospital has undergone a review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts. The commission grants accreditation only to facilities found to be providing quality patient care in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process, including detailed case study review.
Alumnae Panhellenic installs officers
Harriett Rector was installed as president of the Glendale Area Alumnae Panhellenic in June at Magpie’s Restaurant in La Cañada Flintridge. Rector is a member of the Glendale Phi Mu chapter.
Other incoming officers are Vice President Deb Ann Orfalea, of Glendale Zeta Tau Alpha, Secretary Janice Paul, La Cañada Delta Delta Delta; and Treasurer Georgine Archer, Burbank Delta Gamma.
Additional members are Kim Westhoff, Glendale Alpha Omicron Pi; Elaine Chapman, La Cañada Kappa Kappa Gamma; Jacqueline Dwight, Burbank Alpha Xi Delta; Jerri Johnson, Pasadena Sigma Sigma Sigma; Cathy Daniel, Pasadena Pi Beta Phi; and Julie Weller, Glendale Delta Zeta.
Rotarian receives district honor
Ray Rangwala, of the Glendale Sunrise Rotary Club, has been awarded the 2012 Vocational Service Leadership Award by District 5260. The districtwide award goes to a Rotarian who has made a significant impact in the area of vocational service. It was awarded at the District Conference in June at the Beverly Garland Hotel in Studio City.
“Coats for Kids,” first implemented by Rangwala, has been a signature project of the club for more than a decade. Each fall, 56,000 letters are sent to parents throughout the Glendale area, requesting donation of coats, jackets and warm clothing, which their children may have outgrown. Rotarians collect the donated clothing from local schools, have them cleaned and refurbished by members of the Southern California Cleaners Assn., and then they are distributed to children by Rotarians during a school event.
Over the years, an estimated 30,000 garments have been given to the needy. Rangwala has been involved in many other club projects, including donating time to an orphanage in Ensenada, Mexico.
Glendale Sunrise Rotary Club meets at 7 a.m. every Friday at the Oakmont Country Club.
Center accreditation is renewed
Glendale Adventist Medical Center’s campus preschool and child care center has earned a five-year renewal of its accreditation by the National Assn. for the Education of Young Children. Only 8% of preschool and early childhood education programs nationwide are accredited by the association.
To earn accreditation, the center staff completed an self-evaluation that measured programs and services against more than 400 association standards and criteria. The association also conducted an on-site evaluation.
“We are especially proud of Glendale Adventist’s continued commitment in raising the bar for quality child care in the communities we serve,” said Paul Ramey, children’s centers director. “Our established and caring staff meet all state licensing qualifications, and their academic background and years of classroom experience set us apart from other centers in many outstanding ways.”
