A 22-year-old man was injured Tuesday in one of two separate brazen robbery attempts in South Glendale, police said.

The incidents appeared to be unrelated, and they remain under investigation, police said.

Just after 1 a.m., the 22-year-old Glendale man was walking on San Fernando Road, near West Chevy Chase Drive, and looking at his iPhone, when he ignored shouts from another man about his phone.

He was soon thrown to the ground and punched by two men, but he was able to hold onto his iPhone by shoving it in his pocket before the attack.

Later, just after noon, a 31-year-old Glendale woman was standing near a bus stop at Brand Boulevard and Maple Street when a man passing on a bicycle grabbed her backpack.

The man then stopped, removed her wallet from the backpack, which he discarded, and rode off, according to police.
