Three arrested in alleged vehicle-burglary attempt

Three suspects were arrested early Monday for their roles in allegedly trying to break into a parked cargo van, police said.

Felix Cedillo, 22, and a 17-year-old male, who was not identified because he is a minor, were suspected of using a screwdriver to pick the lock of a white van in the 1300 block of Broadway around 12:30 a.m., while 20-year-old Julio Martinez allegedly acted as a lookout, said Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

The suspects did not gain entry, she said.

A witness phoned police saying that three people in a black Ford Focus were looking into the windows of a utility van parked in the area, Lightfoot said.

Responding police observed a matching vehicle, pulled it over and detained the suspects without incident, she said.

Cedillo and Martinez were both booked on suspicion of attempted vehicle burglary and were each being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

The unnamed minor was also booked for the same alleged crime, but was later released to a family member, Lightfoot said.
