Man sentenced for 2013 murder of 11-year-old Burbank student

A 29-year-old man was sentenced on Thursday to 56 years to life in prison for fatally stabbing his girlfriend’s 11-year-old son, who went to school in Burbank, on Memorial Day three years ago. A jury convicted Rineson Curtis Adams last month of one count of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Jai Lewis, as well as one count of child abuse against Jai’s younger brother. Alleged shooter, driver enter pleas

A probationer and his alleged getaway driver were charged Thursday in connection to a car-to-car shooting reported on a busy freeway overpass in Burbank earlier this week that left one man — not the gunman’s intended target — injured, officials said. Sylmar resident Joseph “Blanco” Lupercio, 24, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, as did his alleged getaway driver, 26-year-old Sarah Sullivan, who faces one count of being an accessory after the fact of attempted murder. Freeway tussle caught on camera

A road rage incident over the weekend on the 134 Freeway culminated in both cars stopping and one driver attacking the other as a witness recorded the whole thing on his camera, the California Highway Patrol said. The incident occurred about 3 p.m. Saturday and was posted on YouTube. The California Highway Patrol learned of the video Wednesday night and launched an investigation, CHP Officer Edgar Figueroa said. Los Angeles Times

POTUS in BUR

President Obama was in Burbank on Thursday afternoon for a taped appearance on the “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” at the Warner Bros. lot. Later in the day, he spoke at a pair of Democratic fundraisers in Los Angeles. The trip to the Southland brought road closures in parts of Burbank and Los Angeles. Operations at Bob Hope Airport operations were briefly halted on Obama’s arrival. Burbank Leader

Getting a ‘chunk’ back

The city Housing Authority could soon get a “sizeable chunk” of millions of dollars lost to a development company that inflated construction costs on affordable housing projects. City Manager Scott Ochoa couldn’t say exactly how much the city would receive, but he expects a court-appointed receiver to the developer, Advancement Development Investment Inc., to reach an agreement with the city in the coming months. A big band takes the stage

When students enroll in the stage band class at Wilson Middle School, they sign up to play in the only rock band of its size in Glendale schools — one that is more than 30 students strong. Tonight at 7 p.m., the group is set to take the stage with Glendale High students for the school’s 40th annual “Unconcert.” Glendale News-Press

Master plan discussed by LCUSD

La Cañada Unified School District officials have been given the green light to start preparing a new facilities master plan, which could be a precursor to the district’s placing a general obligation bond measure before voters in November 2017. In addition to construction and renovation projects that have been on the district’s wish list for years, the superintendent also identified LCUSD’s need for an upgraded technology infrastructure, the preliminary costs of which have ranged from $5 million to $7 million.
