Alarms alert Glendale residents to apartment fire

Two Glendale residents escaped their fiery apartment early Tuesday after being alerted by their smoke detectors, officials said.

[For the record, Jan. 15, 2014: An earlier version of this post had a wrong day when the incident occurred.]

The residents were sleeping inside their first-story apartment in the 400 block of West Dryden Street, when they were awakened by the sound from their smoke alarms, according to Glendale Fire spokeswoman Brandy Villanueva.

They were not injured in the blaze.

Shortly after, fire crews arrived at 2:05 a.m. and saw smoke coming from the apartment building.

They discovered the fire and extinguished it about 32 minutes later.

While the cause of the fire is being investigated, damage to the apartment was estimated at $85,000.
