A Glendale man arrested on suspicion of stealing a bicycle was also booked on drug charges after officers allegedly found heroin that was reportedly intended for sale at his home, police said.

Vahram Shagoyan, 27, was taken into custody in the 300 block of East Fairview Avenue, near where he allegedly stole a mountain bike, said Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

The burglary victim told officers that sometime between Thursday and Friday, his Mongoose mountain bike was stolen from the subterranean garage in his apartment complex, Lightfoot said.

Around 11 a.m. on Saturday, the victim’s sister spotted an unknown person, later confirmed to be Shagoyan, riding the bicycle near their home, she said.

Responding officers found Shagoyan riding the bicycle in the area and detained him.

Further investigation revealed Shagoyan was possibly involved in narcotics sales due to texts on his cellphone and $2,000 in cash he had in his possession, Lightfoot said.

A search of his home turned up a plastic baggie containing heroin, she added.

Shagoyan was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs for sale and burglary.

He’s being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.
